“Everglades” Limited Collector’s Edition Online

Zatara Press News

Lisa Elmaleh’s Everglades Limited Collector’s Edition Box is now available in the online store. The handcrafted box, an edition of 10, includes a signed copy of Everglades, and an 8″x10” silver gelatin contact print, hand-printed by Elmaleh. This collaborative project has brought together Richmond, Virginia artisans, Kugo Laser (wood burning and laser engraving) and Zietz Furniture (design and fine wood working) to create an exquisite presentation box worthy of the photobook inside.

In Everglades, Lisa Elmaleh utilizes a large-format 8″x10” camera and the wet-plate collodion process to focus on the complexity and uniqueness of the South Florida ecosystems as a form of preservation. Since the 19th century, more than half of the Everglades have been repurposed for urban and agricultural use. The photographs are what remains: a land we are rapidly losing without knowing the magnitude of our loss. Elmaleh is a master of the 18th century wet-plate collodion process, and each plate inspires both a deep connection with the environment and an awareness that the land appears foreshadowed by something haunting and intangible. Homesick Book Flip Now Available on Youtube

Zatara Press News bookarts, bookflip, bookmaking, homesick, photobook, sarajwinston, zatarapress

We spent a little time today with ZP’s publication, Homesick, by Sara J. Winston.

Homesick is a diary of the photographer’s relocation and well-being as told through anecdotal photographs of food scraps, phantom limbs, and common objects that accompanied the journey. The narrative portrays her household’s health from the vantage point of an artist that is coming to terms with her own physical condition.

The photographs are accompanied with a short story by Ani Katz.

“There comes a time in every rightly constructed boy’s life when he has a raging desire to go somewhere and dig for hidden treasure.”
-Mark Twain, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Jenny Riffle’s, “Scavenger: Adventures in Treasure Hunting”, now has a book flip video on Youtube Check it out!

Artist Statement:
Riley grew up in rural eastern Washington. As a child he read Mark Twain’s stories of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn and decided he wanted to be like those mythical boys. He wanted a life full of treasure and adventure. In the series Scavenger: Adventures in Treasure Hunting, photographer Jenny Riffle follows Riley out on his hunts and photographs the objects he collects. Riffle explores the line between documentary and fantasy. She portrays Riley as an adventurous character driven by the thrill of the hunt and the possibility of what he will discover.

At home Riley arranges and displays all of his treasure. Accompanying 100 copies of the book Scavenger are a set of 15 stereograph cards and a portable viewer to allow the reader to experience Riley’s displays in 3D. Looking into the stereoscope, the reader is invited into Riley’s world of found treasures.
